About SR&ED tax credits

Тhe Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED tax credits) is a federal tax incentive program introduced in the 1980s.

The program encourages businesses of all sizes to conduct research & development to create new or improve existing products, processes, principles, methodologies, or materials.

What can you recover?

The eligible companies in Alberta and British Columbia can recover up to 64% of SRED qualifying expenditures in refundable or non-refundable tax credits. These expenditures include materials, salaries as well as sub-contractor fees.

Are you SR&ED eligible?

In order to be eligible for SR&ED, your project must meet these three criteria:

  1. Technical Content
  2. Technological Uncertainty
  3. Technological Advancement

Here are a few questions that we use to determine whether your project is SR&ED eligible:

  • If you are you involved in design, engineering, data collection or testing. Also, have you ever designed or developed new software?
  • Have you created a new product, added some features to an existing product or made an improvement?
  • Have you changed a process to reduce costs?
  • Have you incurred costs related to a project, prototype or process that has been incomplete because of existing technical problems?

If the answer is still ‘yes’ we can go through your project in more detail and provide an estimate of your potential return.
